Preparations commenced in the autumn of 2013, and following an intensive training course at Plumpton College on the principles of Viticulture, and a lot of hard work; the vineyard was planted in May 2014.

Just over one and a half acres in size and 900 feet above sea level means its steep South-West facing slopes are ideal to help it soak up the suns rays.

Vine varieties were all selected because of their ability to perform well in cool climates. They are Madeleine Angevine, Seyval Blanc, Solaris, and Rondo. Rondo being the only red grape. Wines produced are a mixture of still and sparkling and can be white, red or rosé.

The vineyard is run by all the family and local support from friends and helpers has become an integral part of the vineyards raison d’etre. It is important to the family that the vineyard is seen and enjoyed by people who live locally.

After each years harvest, the grapes are transported to Halfpenny Green vineyard & winery in Staffordshire, who provide the expertise to produce extremely fine English wines. CARRHEAD wine is the product of the passion and care in the vineyard, and the conversion into wine by the highly skilled winemakers of Halfpenny Green. All our wines are vegan friendly and all sparkling wines are made by the traditional method.
